Our bottle of sesame oil was getting a bit long in the tooth, so I finally remembered to replace it. Also discovered “ginger in a tube”. Sounds disgusting, but it turned out to be quite delightful. Fresh ginger is preferable, of course, but RV refrigerators tend to be small, so this concentrated paste is quite a logical method of imparting the lovely taste without the bulk (and spoilage) of fresh ginger root.
The two flavors together really made this dish sing! Of course I don’t understand Chinese, so I have no idea what they were saying! ;-> Unfortunately there was only a tiny bit of leftover deliciousness. We’ll be fighting over it at lunchtime today.
For those who would like to give this dish a whirl, here is a list of the ingredients I used. Obviously any veggies that you have on hand would be just as good – carrots would have added a nice color splash. I was just too lazy to peel them. Leave out the meat if you are of that persuasion.
Red and green peppers
Onions
Celery
Bok Choy
Linguini
Sesame oil
Sesame seeds
Ginger paste
Bits of chicken
Lemon zest
Scallions
Those are the greatest way to prevent continious throwing away the fresh herbs. I have been using and think I need to check and replace a couple that I have used. Have used lemongrass, basil, ginger, garlic, and cilantro. Have you seen the tomatoe paste one? Saw on the Chew think great idea as recipes I use only use 1-2 Tlbs, so what would one do with the left overs from the can?

What is the basil like? I contemplated about that one. I usually use dried, and have a big supply of it. I use tomato powder for the times when I need just a bit of tomato. Can make it up into any thickness needed at the moment. Good for pizza sauce, although I usually use pasta sauce with spinach for that purpose.
What is The Chew?

Oh, please do. It was really so satisfying! Add some almonds if you don’t eat meat.

Sesame oil and ginger are two of my favorite taste combinations. Love to make a dressing for cole slaw using the “angel hair cabbage,” adding ginger and sesame oil to rice wine, topped with slivered almonds, and cilantro. I had not seen the ginger in a tube, so I will definitely pick up some of that for my RV fridge! Thanks!

Need to get some rice wine vinegar for salad dressing. I’d forgotten how good that combo is. I’ve been using the citrus vinegar for so long, it’s become a habit. I need to branch out a bit. Thanks for the nudge.
