I saw the hawk and started snapping his portrait, but wondered what he was looking at so intently. Swung the camera over to the right a bit, and there was our furry friend, looking just a mite on the frightened side.
Tomorrow I’ll show you some of the hawk portraits. He was just stunning!

I hope not! There seems to be an unending parade of things to snap. The mockingbirds are still eating the pyracantha berries, and I swear they are getting drunk. They try to perch on things and have to flap their wings to stay upright!

The hawk showed up again this morning. We can tell when he is coming in because the lesser birds scatter like a sack of marbles dropped on the ground!

Thank you !!! ;-> I felt obligated to shoo away the hawk so that our precious squirrel didn’t have a heart attack and fall off his perch there. When the hawk flew, the squirrel literally vaporized. I couldn’t even see where he went, but presume that it was to his hiding place in some PVC pipes on the ground, or straight under the shed. He tends to hang out over there now instead of under our workshop. Those folks are gone about half the year, but should be back soon, so he is in for a surprise!
In a great show of defiance, the squirrel was back in the same place this afternoon – but well AFTER we had seen the hawk there this morning!

I agree with Craig, this is an award-winning shot. Or at least one that would surely get published if submitted to the right publication. I would be very excited to have captured this scene!

You and Craig are both such excellent photographers that I am overwhelmed at your praise. I’m unlikely to do anything with the photo, though, At 100%, the picture is blurry. I have been using the multishot feature on my camera, but I think that whatever I gain in getting more actual shots, I lose in quality, because I think I tend to physically jerk the camera as it repeatedly fires.
Both of the roadrunners were out back this afternoon and the tease was on. I stalked them, but they seemed to know where I was and would skitter behind bushes and come to a dead halt. I’m pretty sure they were sticking their tongues out at me!
I got some shots of one of them this morning; I think it was the female, and some more this afternoon, but I haven’t yet looked at this afternoon’s batch.
