We have been having a run of organic strawberries at a reasonable price at Safeway now and again, and this is what they look like. Aren’t they beautiful? The taste is just so sweet and delicious that it nearly defies words of explanation.
But to gild the lily just a bit, I whipped up a dipping sauce to make them more interesting, and DH absolutely went ga-ga over it. As usual, I didn’t measure anything, but here are the four ingredients I used:
Sour cream
Orange juice
Coconut sugar
Cinnamon
The original picture had the dipping sauce in it, but when I exposed for the berries, the sauce and its bowl were just too white, and disappeared. The sauce has a little color to it because the coconut sugar is brown, as is the cinnamon, but the bowl was white . . . so no picture of the sauce. It kept well in the refrigerator from lunch to dinner, but I would prefer to make it up ad hoc and eat it all. It takes only about two minutes to make it – well worth the tiny effort.
That sauce sounds interesting.

It is really tasty! Give it a whirl. Did I give you a bag of the coconut sugar when you were here? It is very smooth.

Love those strawberries! The sauce sounds good, but I usually just mix several kinds of fruit together, add chopped walnuts or pecans, and enjoy. Now and then it all gets a shot of whipped cream, but that almost hides the flavors of the fruit.

We’ve tried it on only strawberries so far, and the taste of them came right through. It was more of an “enrichment” flavor than a cover up.

So. . . .how’s that Dr. J’s Book of Recipes coming along, eh?

You can add that fruit-y cream sauce to the other two, and print it out. No copyright! ;->

I love orange and coconut together. Even posted about a cake with these ingredients. Love the idea of combining it with sour cream and cinnamon. 🙂

It was a lucky hit! Will try with other fruits. The batch I made today was too runny – too much orange juice – so may pour it over blueberries or raspberries.

Sounds just as good. 🙂

Your strawberries always look extra special. Do they taste very sweet? Sometimes I buy some big, red strawberries but they can be so sour and unpalatable.

Oh, yes! They were wonderfully sweet and juicy. They were organic on sale, so I splurged. I draw the line at $2./basket, and these were just that amount, so they got to come home with me.

That’s a dessert right up my alley.

The taste of the “sauce” was very special. Not a “flavor” like you might expect, but a delightful adjunct to the flavor of the strawberries themselves, without overpowering them.
