Sentry Plant

Not to be confused with a Century Plant, which is entirely different.

I love these blue urns, with their lovely plants and flowers, that are scattered all over the La Encantada Shopping Center in Tucson.

This lovely arrangement monitors the comings and goings of all who use these stairs to get to the second floor – where there is GELATO!

They just make me swoon. There are all sizes of them. It was a beautiful day, and the sky was really blue, but I blew the color out of the sky when I brightened the plant.

Using my contacts from “back in the day”, I called TSPI and learned the following. That particular plant in your pic is indeed monitoring (and recording) all gelato consumers. If I understood correctly, this plant has odor detection capability and (this is hard to believe), you are supposed to be able to see the plant react when in close proximity to gelato. This is pretty amazing! So on your next trip, please test this claim and let us all know, okay> BTW, TSPI is an acronym for “Tucson Sentry Plant Information”, in case you did not know.
