Seven Friends

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to turn a ho-hum lunch into something REALLY spectacular!  These seven friends help me with that.  They are all pretty potent, so not much is needed, thus very few calories are added to produce a big boost in enjoyment.  The one on the left is Sesame Ginger Cole Slaw – like what you get on Chinese Chicken Salads.

The Sweet French is a new addition.  It is sort of like the old Kraft Catalina Dressing that I remember as a kid.  Maybe they still sell it, but since the advent of the refrigerated dressings, I don’t buy the shelf stable kind any more.  I either make my own from scratch, or use one of these, or combine these – with each other, or with other ingredients that strike my fancy.

Jarred minced ginger is my current flame!  I had no idea that it is so good with so many things.  I’ve nearly finished my one-cup trial jar of it, and just received a three-cup jar to start on next.  It is surprisingly versatile.

The turmeric is medicinal – tastes terrible!  ;->

I am not a heavy user of turmeric in cooking, but I always sprinkle it on scrambled eggs and a few other things. I like the taste and like the kick it gives to the eggs. I get ost of my turmeric in capsule form though.

I’ve learned to just sprinkle some on the edge of my food, scoop up that bit and put it in my mouth, grit my teeth, skrinch up my eyes, and swallow it! Then it doesn’t sully the rest of my food. I can’t tell if it is working or not because the pain is better/worse some days than others. I try to gobble a bit of it with every meal.
