Pluots

  

Our little crop of fruit earlier this month was from a cross between an apricot tree and a plum tree.  As you saw, the resultant fruit looked almost identical to an apricot. 
These are apparently also the same two fruits, but look predominantly like plums with different coloring. 
I wonder how it is that they produce different-appearing and tasting fruits, or is it just random????

    Perhaps it’s a question of what varieties are crossed. For example, if you crossed Granny Smith apples with Green Anjou pears (assuming such a thing is possible), you’d probably get a very different result than if you crossed Golden Delicious apples with Bosc pears.
