Last Thursday was the 26th anniversary of the marriage between DH and me, and we are so happy to have had the opportunity to celebrate it together.
In our usual slothful and penurious manner, we did not exchange gifts or cards. We celebrate all occasions with just words. BUT this year, something different happened.
We live in a very friendly mobile home park, and once in a while someone puts out a little something that is no longer needed onto a table in the rec center where we exercise, with the intent that someone else may be able to utilize it. About a month ago, it was a little sampling of “love” cards – about four of them – along with some 2014 calendars in the same theme. They were from some charity that had apparently sold them to a resident here in the park.
I took one of the cards, intending to use it on Valentine’s Day, but I put it away and forgot all about it until a few days AFTER Valentine’s Day. I dragged it out and showed it to DH, and told him of my forgetfulness.
Et Voilá – a new tradition was born. On the morning of our anniversary, I found the card with a large-ish sticky note inside (with a mushy sentiment, of course) on my computer. So, during his naptime, I penned a new sticky note, put it into the card, and returned it to his computer.
Now we can each have an appropriate card to give with no effort to go out to purchase same, or to provide grist for the (land)fill. Laziness is a “green” thing! ;->
BONUS: The sticky note itself can be temporarily stuck on a wall or other appropriate surface for a period of time as a sweet reminder of the sentiment!
The tricky part will be remembering where the card is located when the time comes to use it next!
Happy belated anniversary! So cute with the card and stickies. I have known of people who did the same thing with one birthday card, mailing it back and forth to each other year after year with separate, hand-written note inside each time.

I didn’t think it was particularly original, but just seemed so right! I haven’t bought a greeting card in about ten years, but presume the cost is staggering judging by what I see in the stores, and how many are probably not salable after having been displayed for a few months. The waste must be unbelievable!

Happy Anniversary! That’s actually a great idea. I knew someone who always sent greeting cards without a signature so they could be used again. The return address told us who they were from, and the sentiment was on the card, all that was missing was the person’s name. I thought that was a good idea, too.
PS Thanks for your comment on the police visit. I was going to answer your comment with my own under it, and accidentally deleted it. 😦 Darn! But you had a good idea and I was going to comment that I’m going to do that next year. I have sheet protectors and cardstock and will print out a message and stick it inside my window – and I will get the security person’s name to add.

Thanks, Barbara! I hope the card works out for you. Seems like a good idea, but sometimes people are not all that observant. Let us know how you do in this regard.

Let me wish you both a very happy anniversary. Twenty-six years – that’s an accomplishment! You sure feed DH very well, if that has a teeny bit to do with it! (lol).

Congratulations, my dear friends! Every year becomes more precious, more exciting and more fulfilling. When I was first married, I said to my husband that one day we would be reading the newspapers with eyes looking over our glasses. We would have grey hair and walk rather than run. This time has come!!! What I didn’t foresee was that our adventures would be even more exhilarating and that we would laugh more often and more joyously. We live the best moments with those we love.
Thank you for including me in your wonderful celebration!
