We love the citrus-y flavor of lemons and limes, but the extraordinarily expensive lemons don’t last very long these days, and limes are dry about ten minutes after cutting them, if they have any juice in them at all. So I’ve been reduced to relying on these two bottles of crystalized “juices”.
Not as good as the real thing, but not bad. I made some guacamole with the lime by mixing in a half teaspoon of crystals in about a teaspoon of water, and that worked well. I sprinkled some of the lemon directly on avocado slices, and that was okay. But I think mixing it with water first would make it more lifelike! Either one sprinkled directly in the potato soup worked well because of the massive amount of fluid available to rehydrate the crystals.
The bottles were $4. each at Amazon, and will probably last us for at least a year, if not longer.
Lucky for me I usually find reasonably priced lemons and lime, but this is a great tip to have, just in case there’s nothing good in the market. Thanks for sharing your secrets! 🙂

It’s nowhere near as good. I want FRESH, FRESH, FRESH!!! But in a pinch . . . I can suffer a bit. ;->

Sometimes when I find really good lemons and limes, I juice them and freeze them in small cubes, grate the zest and freeze that too.

I kept a whole, big lemon in the freezer for a long time, and just shaved off bits with a zesteur. We don’t use much, so it lasted a long time. I found a new zesteur the other day that has a sharp edge to make narrow strips as well as the thin curls. Haven’t used it yet, though.

That’s a good idea for me to try. I like lemon with warm water in my acacia powder mix before meals. Our lemons are high here too. Gonna try that.

The taste is pretty good. It doesn’t have that artificial aftertaste that is so icky!

I think I’ll order a bottle of TrueLemon. (Couldn’t find it at the store.) I looked it up on Amazon.com, but wasn’t sure it would work in guacamole or sprinkled on fish. Now I know. I’ll add it to a bit of water. Thanks. 🙂

I was cautious. I’ve been contemplating this purchase for, literally, YEARS! But it seems okay, but probably should be used sparingly because of the maltodextrin. I seem to be sensitive to it for some reason.
