BE SURE TO CLICK ON Animals Spotted above to see tonight’s excitement.
These guys/gals are getting to be regulars at Ye Olde Water Ponde. They can hear my shutter, and look up the first few times, but after that, they don’t seem concerned. They get drinks and repair to the stands of mesquite trees to dine on the ripening seed pods, and then move along.
These, or some like them, have been captured on the critter cam that you can see just in front of where they are standing. When they come at night, we see only one at a time, but can’t really tell if we are seeing the same one repeatedly, or if there are more, and they are just taking turns. They refuse to wear their assigned name tags!
When I saw the blog title my first thought was that it was a joke, you know, “These three deer were having a drink in the bar, when …..”

The one drinking looks like she might be expecting.

I thought that, too. I presume it is a mom with two not-so-babies.

Those are about the most mulish mule deer I’ve ever seen!

That is the only kind we’ve ever seen around here.

I had a doe and twin fawns that came to play last year. But I never knew what became of them. Probably for the best with all the hunters around!

There isn’t much hunting around our area. The scrub doesn’t really support more than just the stray wanderer. Mostly it is just open grazing land, but still just scrub.

I’m with Gypsy. . .”oh, cool. . .a joke!” Sigh
My, but what big ears they have!

They are beautiful, and their ears are remarkable. I’ve seen photos of mule deer before, but had never seen the ears so clearly shown as mule-like.

That is the only type I’ve seen around here. They have very soft and gentle eyes, too. They don’t seem to be afraid of me, so long as I don’t move in their direction!

Such beauties! It’s been a while since I’ve seen deer. Love the huge ears. Not very nice of them to refuse to wear their name tags, though. 🙂

I agree with Dale, the one drinking does look extra plump. She could be having a baby soon!

The other two are going to need to share her!

They’ve been laying low for the last few days, though. It is pretty hot out there. The jackrabbit has been coming in during all hours of the day, so he must be really thirsty. Most of them come early in the morning and just at dusk – so I can’t get a good picture of them – the rascals!
